Thank you for taking a look around my website, JoyousJournies. I named it this because I believe if you haven't learned how to feel joyous for at least a few moments each and every day as you go through this journey we call life ...you need to make some changes. For me these changes came by journeying into the remarkable world of healing energy called Reiki. Reiki has been my biggest source of healing physical problems, emotional challenges, and perhaps most important, spiritual growth.

The desire to make changes in my life came in 1999 when my father was ill and passed away. Although I was with him as often as possible, and tried everything I knew to help make him comfortable...there was an awareness in me that something was missing...there was a spiritual, healing connection that I longed to make with him, but did not know how.

At that time I was an audio-visual producer and freelance photographer - an active participant in the busy corporate world. I was also married to a wonderful husband, had a teenaged daughter, four other step-children and a family dog. We live in the Chicago area, but love the mountains, especially in New Mexico. Life was good, but I was feeling empty, unfulfilled. I started traveling to the mountains more often to "feed my soul." I also started showing some of my photography in galleries to fulfill the "artist" side of me...but again...I knew there was something of a spiritual nature that needed to come into my life.

Spirit works in amazing ways....and when I was at an emotional low... a friend told me about a Reiki class. I had no idea what energy healing was at the time, but I KNEW I needed to take the class. And it changed my life.

Spirit guided me to a Reiki Master who teaches and honors the Usui System of Natural Healing, named after the founder of the system, Dr. Mikao Usui. He is also an amazing healer who, in his Master Class, passed on invaluable information we call "non-traditional Reiki" that builds upon and enhances one's own healing skills.

During my master class, I began doing hospice work through West Suburban Hospital. I worked with my first patient for over six months...seeing first-hand how Reiki eased his pain, relaxed his mind, and ultimately how it eased him towards his transition. Reiki had given me the gift of spiritual connection that I was not capable of during my own father’s death

Soon after that experience, I decided to start practicing Reiki. The Journey had taken me down a new path. I found that every Reiki treatment for every new client had important lessons to teach me, as we worked together on easing physical pains, mental stress or to work on relaxation and meditation techniques to keep the body aligned and functioning at a higher level. It has been such a pleasure to work with pregnant women, stressed-out business people, the terminally ill, people recovering from surgery, or those who are simply curious.

As a result, I started doing lectures to reach more people about Reiki - and now I also teach Reiki classes. I keep my classes small and personal - teaching out of my home. However, I'm very excited to now offer Reiki in New Mexico! Every year we go to a small mineral springs called Ojo Caliente in Northern New Mexico. It’s an amazingly spiritual place among ancient Indian ruins. Teaching Reiki level II there is a dream come true for me...and is truly a Joyous Journey!
